Snö Mountain to Be Auctioned at Sherriff's Sale
The Scranton Times-Tribune is reporting that financially troubled Snö Mountain, located near Scranton, PA will be sold at auction after the bank foreclosed on the resort's mortgage.
Formerly known as "Montage Mountain," the resort was originally owned and operated by the county government. The resort has a 1,000' vertical drop and some legitimately steep runs on the lower half of the mountain, one of which - White Lightening - the resort claims to be the steepest trail in the East. Ski, Esq. finds this claim a little dubious, but regardless, the mountain offers fun and affordable skiing for those in the Scranton area.
The sale was triggered when the bank foreclosed on the resort's mortgage. Any purchaser would take the property subject to the tax liabilities levied against it. The resort is scheduled to be auctioned on July 17th at 10 am, but according to the report, Snö is hopeful it will be able to close a deal to refinance the property, obviating the need for the sale.
