Link: New York Times Weighs in the Arizona Snowbowl Dispute
On Wednesday, the New York Times ran a story entitled, "Resort’s Snow Won’t Be Pure This Year; It’ll Be Sewage." As you might have guessed from the title, the Times did not look kindly on the Snowbowl's decision to utilize treated wastewater in the snowmaking process and although the story fell in the paper's "U.S." section, it reads more like an editorial. Ski, Esq. is left to wonder whether the Times' would have preferred the resort used precious potable water, so scarce in the Western states, for snowmaking. One thing is for certain, water law is a topic that is likely to come to the fore with increasing frequency in the coming decades as Western states' population growth continues to tax already scarce resources.
